Its a must have if you do vacuming,or work in a dusty enviroment like yard work; especially if you are Asthmatic or sensitive to dust and other irritants like dust mites,dander, mold, pollen etc.

When properly fitted these NIOSH approved particulate filters protect against a wide range of hazardous environments. Whether it's welding, brazing, torch cutting, or soldering these filters are a must have to keep you safe. Also protects against concentrations of lead, asbestos, cadmium, arsenic, and MDA up to 10x the permissible exposure limits (PEL) with half face pieces, and up to 50x the PEL with full face pieces. Lightweight and comfortable the 2091 P100 uses 3M's advanced Electret Media for easy breathing not found in traditional fiberglass containing filters. Also features a minimum filter efficiency of 99.97% as per 42 CFR 84 compliant testing. Holmes Hap8756 True HEPA Allergen Remover/Air Purifier Review

This year has been particularly bad so far, despite a heavy use of anti-allergy medication like benadryl.
Last week I decided to buy this Holmes air purifier, to see if that works. And, surprisingly I must confess, it is actually very efficient against airborne allergens: I placed this unit in my bedroom, and I had no problem sleeping at night. My itchy throat and watery eyes completely disappeared. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.
The only issue I see is that the unit is a bit noisy, but that does not prevent me from sleeping (it's like having a A/C unit on, you get used to the noise). So I recommend this air purifier for people who suffer from pollen allergies.

Hamilton Beach 04269 True Air Plug Mount Odor Eliminator Review

It's still not as quiet as the Febreze model Odor Eliminator, but the 04269 does a champion job of reducing odor. If you buy from DollarRite with Amazon fulfillment, you'll get the pet filter included, which is thicker than the basic carbon filter. Also, the sheer circumference of the ventilated portion of the 04269 is bigger than the Febreze model (keep in mind, however, the unit itself is also a little bigger, if space is at a premium).

I still prefer the Febreze model Odor Eliminator for its quiet fan, but this model runs a close second.

(More customer reviews)We had been shopping around a while for a purifier, they were either too big or too expensive.This one, although it's small has been working very good for us and the price is not too high either.Our daughter was born prematurely, and hospital atmosphere is so clean and sterile, I was afraid she would come down with something when she got home.We decided to set the crib and the purifier up in our room for a while until she gets strong enough to sleep alone and we can really feel a difference in the air. It is compact taking up little space and blends nicely, its not an ugly looking clump.We will be buying another one for our other daughters room.

there are 2 major things wrong with this (and every?) holmes product i have been 'duped' into using. it is much like when you buy a printer, the initial unit is a mere downpayment for all the cartridges you'll need if you use it 'normally.' the holmes air purifiers i have been intermittently stuck with do help clean the air and thanks to the standardization of the hepa filter (and no thanks to holmes), work fairly well. the downside is they are extremely difficult to clean (i think i used an entire package of qtips) and you have to take the damned thing apart yourself to do so (hence i cleaned mine once and dumped it) if you like cleanliness, after using it a few months, once you look inside the thing you'll be prompted to do likewise. the reasonit's popular seems attributable to one factor: it is cheap. seems like a good idea at the time. then u start buying the filters (approx $15 or more each) and attempting to maintain it and realize what a poorly thought out piece o' junk the actual unit really is. be smart, spend more and get an air cleaner from a company that cares whether or not the unit can be cleane (slantfin, bionaire, honeywell). hope this helps save others from a dirty business.

(More customer reviews)To start, I just want to let it be known that I've had my Hamilton Beach TrueAir Allergen Reducer for all of a week...But there's been so much of a difference that I couldn't wait any longer to write this review.

I've never had any hardcore allergies to cats or dogs, and I love pets.When I married my wife, I became Dad to her six cats.Long hair, shorthair, hair everywhere.And a few months ago, I began noticing that waking up in the morning was getting increasingly unpleasant.As of last month (and I'll try not to be overly graphic) I was waking up without fail each day with what felt like a concrete mixer behind my eyes.Congested every morning, and having to take extra-long, piping hot showers to feel any better... usually followed by at 500 mg of Tylenol and an additional allergy medicine.

So I saw this Allergen Reducer for a 210 square foot room online and decided the price was right to give it a shot (replacement filters are less than $15 each, which was also an acceptible cost).Our bedroom is about that size exactly, and since we usually have at least three cats in bed with us at any given time during the night, it seemed worthy of the investment.

After four days of having this machine on in our room (with the one door usually open only enough for the cats to enter and exit), I'm happy to report that each day I have (waked? woken? waken?) to a 99% improvement.I'll certainly come back to this review in future months to update, but there has been such an enormous difference within a very short time that I wanted to tell others who might be currently experiencing what I have in the past that this device might provide much welcomed relief, and quickly!

UPDATE Aug. 2010: I have knocked the unit off the shelf onto the carpet several times and it still functions. Still amazed at the amount of particulates it traps.
