The Hunter HEPAtech 10 Air Purifier (30010) uses the same long-lasting micro-filter material used in hospital respirators, incubators and anesthetic equipment. This two-speed model has a portable design that is easy to move from room to room. It has a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) that will exchange air several times per hour in a 6 by 7-foot room with an 8-foot ceiling. It's a great choice for desktops in offices, or for use in the smaller rooms of the home. Other features include an air flow rating of 75 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute), easy-change drop-in filter pack, and 35 watt power consumption.
The HEPAtech system has a whisper-quiet fan that draws air into the unit without noise, and then sends it to a separate washable pre-filter captures large dust particles, lint and pet hair. The permanently charged HEPAtech Electret filter then effectively captures 99.97 percent of particles as small as 0.1 microns in size.
CADR measures the amount of clean air that a purifier delivers into a room. It gauges real world performance, taking into account filter efficiency, airflow and room size. CADR is the single most important piece of information you need to make a head-to-head comparison of air cleaner performance.

(More customer reviews)Pros:Real HEPA air purifiers are expensive, and if you're on a budget this will do the job.If you have bad allergies, you need HEPA -- not "HEPA-like" or "90% HEPA" or other essentially false categorizations.(Those are just scummy ways for marketers to slap the word "HEPA" onto products to which it doesn't apply.)The Holmes HAP8615 is a real HEPA device at a low price.

It's small and versatile.You can place it up against the wall.You can stand it up or put it on its side.

Cons: As others have pointed out, this machine is loud.I have it on 3 out of 4 and it's making quite a racket.Even at 1 it's definitely audible; I wouldn't want to have this going while watching TV for example.It's also not a flat "white" noise.It sort of flutters, so rather than "fffffffffffffffffffffff" you get "fufffufuffffffuffufffffffufuf".

That being said, I'm running it in my office right now, and I'd much rather have some noise than be sneezing every five seconds (literally -- what a bad spring we've been having!)I guess it depends on what clean air is worth to you.

Actually, I take back what I said about white noise.It's doing a nice job of blotting out background noises, and I can concentrate.

(More customer reviews)My son's room was always smelly and musty (from carpet, diaper pail, hamper and don't know what else).The air just felt dirty.So I bought this purifier (because it's adorable and good price).I've had it for one week and have definitely noticed a difference in the air quality.The air smells fresher and feels easier to breathe in there.The noise level is very quiet when you have it on low.You can put it on Medium or High when you are away or you need to quickly clean the air - on these higher settings it's very loud but thankfully the low setting is quiet.The only negatives - the blue UV light is VERY BRIGHT.I have to turn the shark away from the crib at night because it's so bright.Overall, I am happy with this purchase!!

UPDATE:I've had this purifier for almost one year now and am still very happy with it!It captures a lot of dust/dirt (apparent from the dirty filter) and the room always smells clean.If I ever turn it off for a long period of time I can notice the musty smell return but it quickly disappears once I turn the filter back on.I finally cut out two small pieces of dark duct tape and put it over the SUPER BRIGHT LED light and now it's not a problem.Very happy.
